Damn right I do... Nov. 21st, 2007 @ 09:33 pm
Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In March I signed my organ donor card (28 points). Last Sunday I gave shy_kyau a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points). In February I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-76 points). In June I donated bone marrow to ckocher in a life-saving procedure (300 points). In August on a flight to Vancouver, I stole the emergency flight information card (-40 points).

Overall, I've been nice (262 points). For Christmas I deserve a Pony Slaystation 3!

What Do You Have To Say? - I'm The Boss Oct. 18th, 2007 @ 10:32 pm
If you had the resources to start your own business, what would it be?
Probably a comic book store or something equally geeky. :) Maybe not a store, though. Maybe something unprofitable to do with comics or books or CDs or DVDs or anime that wouldn't require me to sell things.

Stardust: Potential tiny spoilers, I guess... Aug. 13th, 2007 @ 01:49 pm
Went to see Stardust this weekend with a friend. I hadn't really been looking forward to it too much because the trailers and commercials looked awful. However, Neil insisted that many of those were misleading, insisted that the movie was good, and he himself said he was looking at the film as a separate entity than his book. So with this in mind, I went in.

And I liked it. I really did. Though many fantasy movie cliches drifted in, it still was enjoyable. It's been a long time since I read the book, so I didn't catch all of the differences, but I knew there were quite a few. The basic plot is the same. The themes are the same. Some of the dialogue is the same. But it's still a different thing.

The effects were pretty good, though not spectacular. Some of the CG looked like CG, especially with the backgrounds. I did like the magic effects for the most part, though. I noticed a pretty major blunder in one scene, though, where Michelle Pfeiffer wasn't wearing the makeup she should've been wearing, but it was a short scene. And maybe there was an explanation for it that I wasn't thinking of.

There was quite a bit of humor, much of it on the adult side, which was good. Though not as witty as the book, it was still great and entertaining.

The performances were truly excellent, though. Even people I tend to hate, such as DeNiro (the casting on this one was brilliant, by the way. Much of the shock value of the reveal on his character is because it's DeNiro), turned out grand performances. Tristan was the lovable goof (but not TOO much of a goof) that we expect him to be. Claire Danes, who's always iffy for me, did a good job as Yvaine. And, really, after seeing on IMDB that Sarah Michelle Gellar had actually been offered the role and turned it down (though who knows what's true and what's not on IMDB), I'm just glad we were spared that nightmare. Sarah Michelle Gellar is fun, but Yvaine she's not. Ricky Gervais had a fun little role, as well.

Though there were some troubling bits (the shmaltziness of the romance and the way Tristan and Yvaine's relationship pretty much developed over a montage), but overall, I enjoyed it. I tried to think of it as a separate thing from the book. And I did a pretty good job of convincing myself that some of the changes were cinematically necessary. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy films.

» Yum?
I finally tried one of KFC's Heart Attack Bowls tonight and I find myself rather unimpressed. I'd been in the mood for KFC for about a week, so I popped into one and thought I'd try one of these bowls. It just didn't seem to have enough flavor in it. It was a mix of lots of yummy stuff, but for some reason, when stuck together, it just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was just this particular KFC, though. I may have to investigate further.
» Emilie Simon
Having listened to her US debut CD (which is just a compilation of songs from her overseas releases, kinda like what they did with Aqualung's Strange and Beautiful) several times since receiving it as a gift a few days ago, I have to say that Emilie Simon kicks ass. If you dig Kate Bush or Bjork and you want something new and good (sorry, but Kate's latest was EXTREMELY disappointing), give her a try. She's French, but most of the songs are in English.

I love her. Truly. Madly. Deeply.
» Jeeeeeorb!
Well. On Monday, I got a seasonal job at Macy's! Woo! It doesn't pay as well as I need to keep on livin', but once I get some money from my retirement fund, I'll be able to keep living here in Virginia for a few more months. Hopefully I'll find something happy and permanent in the meantime. But for now, I'll be making money. My training is tomorrow. Woo! This should be interesting. :)
» Boobie dream
I had a somewhat odd dream this morning.

The oddest part was probably the fact that I had a girlfriend in it. An extremely cute one. And I think she's played the role of my girlfriend in other dreams before. But I could NOT keep my hands off her. Basically, I wanted my hands on her breasts constantly. And she wasn't wearing a bra ever for some reason. Probably to indulge me. :P We were driving to a restaurant, my hands were on her boobs. We waited to be seated, same thing. I honestly didn't know I was quite THIS fascinated with breasts. But apparently I am.

The other weird part of the dream was that I was going to a restaurant with her and we were joined by an ex-co-worker that I hated. For some reason, we were being seated at the bar. Which was 3 levels up from the main restaurant for whatever reason. I honestly don't know why I'd go to a restaurant with this person because I really didn't like him and I'm sure he'd get in the way of my boobie touching.

But anyhow... weird weird weird...
» The tale of my sleeping woes
So I've been trying to get a good night's sleep and wake up in the morning almost as if I have a job. Let's be realistic here... I'm not going to get up at 6 unless I have a good reason to. But I've been trying to get up around 8:30. This has been thwarted by many things. The main culprit seems to be my body. It doesn't seem to want to cooperate. My doctor gave me some lunesta to try to help things along. This hasn't helped much at all, it seems.

Let's see... Monday night, I went to bed around 1 and didn't get to sleep until around 6:30. I got up at 8:30 but then napped until noon. On Tuesday night, I went to bed around 2 and got up around 11. On Wednesday night, I popped a lunesta around 12, didn't fall asleep until 4, then got up around 3. On Thursday night, I took a lunesta at 10, didn't fall asleep until 1, but didn't get up until 4. And, finally, Friday night I took a lunesta at 9:00 and I haven't fallen asleep yet. And it's now just about 6am.

So... I don't know what my body's trying to do to me, but it's sure doing a good job of it. I feel sleepy, but not tired. On top of everything else, I don't NEED this. Of course, this is probably BECAUSE of everything else.
